Lobsang Sangay elected Tibetan exile leader

Ahead of impending transition of political powers from Tibetan Spiritual leader Dalai Lama, Tibetans across the world toady elected 42-year old Harvard scholar Lobsang Sangay as new Prime Minister of the Tibet’s government-in-exile.

The results of the elections to the members of new Parliament and Kalon Tripa (Prime Minister) were declared today after completion of the counting of the votes and compilation of the reports received from 56 regional election commissions.

Making this announcement Chief Election Commission of the Central Tibetan Administration Jampal Choesang said the new Prime Minister ,however, will take charge on August 15 after end of the term of incumbent Prime Minister Dr S.Rinpoche ,who also recently headed the Parliamentary committee to amend Tibetan’s charter for transfer of powers from Dalai Lama to new Prime Minister and other organs of the Parliament.
