1150 cities, municipalities and counties fly the Tibetan flag on Mar10

A total of 1150 cities, municipalities and counties across Germany flew the Tibetan national flag on Mar 10 at town halls and public buildings and also displayed it on their websites. The participants included the regional capitals Bremen, Hanover, Magdeburg, Potsdam, Saarbruecken, Stuttgart and Wiesbaden. The occasion marked the 52nd anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising against Chinese occupation.

“By doing so, they affirm on behalf of thousands of citizens the Tibetan people’s right to self-determination and protest against the violations of human rights and the destruction of the Tibetan people’s culture, religion and national identity,” said Monika Deimann-Clemens, the Flag campaign’s coordinator for Tibet Initiative Deutschland. TSG Germany has been carrying out the cmap9ing action since 1996.

“To fly the flag for Tibet is a question of integrity,” one of the participating mayors was quoted as saying.
