(Tibetan students demanding their language rights in Amdo)
The petition says, Budapest students’ signature campaign It is very sad to know that Peoples’ Republic of China’s authority forced to learn Chinese as the main language of instruction in Tibetan areas on the name of education reform plan which is hardly to accept by Tibetans. New education reform which plans that has sparked protests by Tibetan students over concerns that their mother-tongue is being sidelined. Thousands of school students demonstrated in Amdo (Qinghai) province this week in anger at plans to force them to study in the Chinese language. The unrest spread to other part of Tibetan plateau as well as Beijing on Friday, 22nd October, 2010, where about 500 students at the Beijing campus of Minzu University of China, a leading institution for ethnic minority students, protested for language rights.
We the Hungarian students strongly support and solidarity with their demands of language rights under the constitution of Peoples’ Republic of China. We also urge your PRC authorities to allow them to practice and learn their mother tongue which is part of universal value and rights.
Budapest students’ signature campaign organized by Choegyal Tenzin. Later he forwarded signature to Brussels Representative office, Dalai Lama.
